Helping you unstick the past, process grief, and find your way back to a regulated, grounded self in person or via telehealth.

When "Time Heals All Wounds" Isn't Enough

Most people are told that time will eventually dull the pain of a difficult experience. But for those living with trauma, the past doesn't always stay in the past.

Traumatic memories can get "stuck" in the brain, remaining as raw and vivid as the day they happened. You might feel it as a sudden surge of anxiety, a physical tightness in your chest, or a persistent belief that you are "broken."

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a research-backed, evidence-based therapy designed to help your brain finish the healing it started. It doesn’t just help you talk about the past; it helps you reprocess it so it loses its grip on your present.

How EMDR Works: Tapping Into Your Brain’s Natural Healing

Think of EMDR as a way to jumpstart your brain’s natural processing system, the same one that functions during REM sleep.

Using bilateral stimulation (like guided eye movements or gentle tapping), we help your brain file away distressing memories so they feel more like "stories from the past" rather than "threats in the present."

  • No need to retell every detail: Unlike traditional talk therapy, you don’t have to relive the trauma out loud over and over.

  • Your body sets the pace: We move only as fast as your nervous system feels safe.

  • Lasting shifts: We work to replace old, painful beliefs (like "I'm not safe") with new, adaptive ones (like "It's over; I am safe now").

What to Expect: The Four Key Phases

We work through a structured process designed to keep you grounded and supported at every step.

1. Safety & Preparation: We build a foundation of trust. You’ll learn specific tools to help you stay regulated and calm before we begin any deep processing.

2. Assessment: We identify the specific "stuck" memory and the physical sensations or beliefs attached to it.

3. Processing: The heart of the work. While you focus briefly on the memory, I guide you through bilateral movements. Most clients find this process surprisingly natural and calming.

4. Integration: We reinforce your progress, ensuring you feel settled, empowered, and clear-headed before the session ends.

Is EMDR Right for You?

EMDR is highly effective for more than just PTSD. It is a powerful tool for:

  • Traumatic Grief: Helping "frozen" grief move forward so you can honor your loss without being overwhelmed by the shock.

  • Anxiety & Panic: Calming the nervous system's "alarm" response.

  • Childhood & Attachment Wounds: Healing the old "if only" thoughts and feelings of shame.

  • Feeling "Stuck": If you’ve tried talk therapy and your mind understands the logic, but your body still feels the pain, EMDR can bridge that gap.
